Join us on July 7, 2012 for an All-Star concert & fireworks cruise featuring the “Regal Queen of the Blues”, Ms. Shirley Lewis, acclaimed international percussionist Sergio Bellotti, renowned saxophonist Amadee Castenell & lead guitarist J. Laite. Ms. Lewis, a BluesTrust Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, has electrified audiences from coast-to-coast and has performed with blues legends such as B.B. King, James Cotton, Luther “Guitar Junior” Johnson, James Montgomery and Pinetop Perkins The highly acclaimed percussionist Sergio Bellotti is on the faculty of Berklee College of Music, and has performed with Mike Stern, Wayne Krantz, Bob James, Robben Ford, Frank Wilkins and Tino D'Agostino. World-renowned saxophonist Amadee Castenell has performed with Paul Simon, Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney, Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, Ruth Brown, Dolly Parton, Dr. John, The Neville Brothers, Billy Joel, James Cotton, Albert King, and Linda Ronstadt to mention just a few. Seasoned lead guitarist J. Laite has performed with K.D. Bell, Shirley Lewis, Boston City Rhythm, Nicole Nelson, Lisa Marie, Sweet Willie D., Soul of Boston, Toni Lynn Washington, Dr. Humble, Weepin’ Willie, K.T. Norris and Cheryl Renee. The summer’s ever popular river cruise, Newburyport’s Annual “Yankee Homecoming” BluesCruise features The David Maxwell All Star Blues Band featuring international sensation, Darrell Nulisch. Severn Records recording artist Darrell Nulisch, just off a European tour with James Cotton, has been called "one of the most soulful vocalists on the current scene. Nulisch's warm, world-weary vocals infuse each song with a deeply personal mix of vulnerability and determination". A native of Texas, and steeped in the gritty Texas blues, Nulisch grew up basking in the sounds of Jimmy McCarcklin, Freddie King, Jimmie and Stevie Ray Vaughn, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. He has performed with James Cotton, Johnny Winter, Anson Funderburgh, Johnny Moeller,Taj Mahal, Hubert Sumlin, Ronnie Earl, Pinetop Perkins, Willie "Big Eyes" Smith & Shemekia Copeland as well as his own band, Texas Heat Grammy Award Winner David Maxwell is best known for his soulful virtuosity and unmatched ability to reach the heart of his audience. He has gained the respect of artists, critics and fans and has established a reputation as one of the finest blues pianists alive. David has performed and recorded with Freddie King, Bonnie Raitt, James Cotton, Otis Rush, Buddy Guy, Hubert Sumlin, Jimmy Rodgers, Charley Musselwhite, Johnny Adams, Ronnie Earl, Muddy Waters, Freddie King, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Levon Helm (The Band), Jimmy Witherspoon, Junior Wells, Keith Richards, John Lee Hooker and Eric Clapton. One of the hardest working bass players in the business, Marty Ballou has performed with Clark Terry, Herb Pomeroy, Duke Robillard, Jimmy Witherspoon, Herb Ellis, Sax Gordon, Roomful of Blues, Jerry Portnoy and Ann Rabson. Boston's own Chris Anzalone studied drums with jazz great Bob Gioullotti of “The Fringe” while still in his teens and has performed with prominent Blues and R&B artists including Toni Lynn Washington, , The Radio Kings, and The Woodburn-Arena Band, and Little Joe Cook. Join us for a special 60's revival rock n' roll dance cruise hosted by FOUR BARREL BILLY and featuring a parade of top regional ALL-STARS. This event is also a reunion of friends of Canta Libre, the Fowles Restaurant community (from the “Joan & Ra” era), Old School Newburyport friends, Cluster School circa '78 &'79 and anybody else who lived the dream in the 'Port in the 70’s and 80’s.
